Levis Strauss Theory

Levis Strauss observed that many stories contained opposing elements or characters which is the catalyst for the plot and narrative.

In this movie multiple themes are explored using Anakin as a pivot to show how a young and modern mind is held back and limited by senseless traditions.

Restriction VS Expressing One's Emotions/Vulnerability

The plot revolves around Anakin who is a member of the Jedi order which mandates that its members must live a life of voluntary celibacy in order to reduce emotional attachments,  despite this Anakin who had feelings for a senator pursued a relationship with her and cared for her and despite not being allowed to do so even had her children, Anakin's rebellion was viewed as positive as the film illustrates the beauty of union between 2 peoples despite hurting one's reputation within an organization.

Tradition VS Modernity

The many rules of the Jedi order are presented in the film to be at times impractical or even wrong, as if they were meant for and applicable at another era, Anakin takes practical solutions for example killing off one of the antagonists rather than following the rule where he must take him prisoner instead taking a fast solution to a grave problem, this productivity is contrasted with the slow and unfair decision making of the Jedi council which causes Anakin to question their authority.

Collectivism VS Personal Gain

The film shows how collectivists societies or organizations deny people's personal ambitions and identities which might lead to bitterness and dissatisfaction, for example Anakin's want to prove himself to the Jedi council and rise its ranks is covered by other matters others deem to be important, the feeling of being ignored brings Anakin to lash out and seek negative influences for closure and comfort.

Fragile Peace VS Necessary War

Throughout the movie negotiations between the separatists and the republic are ongoing where some push to end the conflict with force or sign an armistice for a fragile peace, throughout the movie peace negotiations are always disregarded by Jedis who fight but are promoted by senators who are shown to be more sophisticated and educated, thus indicating that peace is a more rational choice
