Post Modernism
Analyze The Key Characteristics Of Postmodernism
Jean Baudrillard developed the theory of postmodernism where he claims everything is a copy of copy and that there are no fixed truths or rules, he differentiated reality from heightened reality which is a text edited to create meaning from hyperreality which is a media product that is scripted, and simulacra which is a representation of something that actually does not exist but represent to be so. He claims people prefer to live in simulations.
Postmodern media text can be classified as heightened reality or hyperreality where editing is used to create meaning or the text is scripted but made out to be real, an example is the 2020 movie "Borat Subsequent Movie Film" by 2 by 4 Studios which mixes heightened reality and hyperreality, the movie features a scripted character played by Sacha Baron Cohen interacting with people to catch their unscripted reactions which is edited and cut with commentary added over them at times.
Postmodern media also tends to include intertexuality and parodies to maximize the enjoyment of the media text via fan service, an example being Deadpool 2 released in 2020 which in its trailer references Bob Ross and in the movie parodies Green Lantern by mocking the latter, fans who enjoyed the media text referenced by the movie will further enjoy Deadpool 2 due to understanding the reference.
The Media Condition The Way We Think. To What Extent Do You Agree With This Statement.
I agree that media conditons our thoughts, e spend more time than ever before consuming media due to the technological convergence of the internet and streaming & telecommunication technology where we could access media products much more easily for a cheaper price now, because of this we are more prone to the having our beliefs shaped due to consuming large amounts of media where for example the increasing representation of the LGBTQ community in films such as "Strange World" or "The Owl House"by Disney normalizes people seeing non heterosexual characters to the point of being desensitized thus bringing them to be more accepting, people who already have pro-LGBTQ stance will have their views reinforced by watching creators like Illymation who advocates for LGBTQ representation and acceptance and explained by Cultivation theory.
Media gatekeeping where news outlets choose what news to show by usually choosing negative topics and overblowing it leads to the audience to develop an irrational and exaggerated fear of what is being covered, in the beginning of the 2020 news outlets like CNN and MNSBC kept on repeating the narrative that supplies like toilet rolls and other essentials will go out of stock due to hoarding and the pandemic bringing more people to hoard supplies of toilet rolls.
